Head Start on Engineering

What it is: Head Start on Engineering is a family-centered program designed to engage preschool children and their parents/caregivers in the engineering process.

The program focuses on the engineering design process (rather than the field of engineering) as a topic and skill that is highly relevant to the everyday lives of families. This helps make engineering feel approachable, and easily connects to early childhood play and learning practices.

Why taking an inquiry-based approach to lessons can improve learning
K-12 Dive

Takeaway: Bringing inquiry-based learning into the classroom can deepen the educational process for students, helping them more easily remember the work they’ve done and what they’ve learned.

How TERC can help: The Inquiry Curriculum provides sustained inquiry about the nature of matter for grades 3-5. It brings together core ideas, scientific practices, and crosscutting concepts. The curriculum for each grade is built around a network of science concepts. These concepts are relevant to understanding matter and include ideas about material, weight, and volume.

Fun STEM Fact!
Civil engineers are the ones who design bridges, like the Danyang-Kashang Grand Bridge in China, the longest bridge in the world. It’s over 100 miles long!
