| October 2025 STEM education insights and resources for educators Programs & Materials Highlights Our forward-thinking and groundbreaking research projects often result in insightful and inspiring learning materials, many for free. EMPower Series What it is: EMPower™ is a series of seven titles that addresses the tremendous need adults have for a more solid math foundation upon which higher level math can then be built. It helps adults develop mathematical proficiency to more effectively engage with the world, whether that be at work, at home, in the community, or as they seek high school credentials and further education and training. EMPower challenges students and teachers to consistently extend their ideas of what it means to do math. The entire series promotes conceptual understanding rather than just procedures and rules. It was designed to help adults and adolescents experience math as more than just classroom lessons and instruction. Let’s boost learning beyond the traditional school day The Hechinger Report Takeaway: Students need opportunities to experience math in ways that build confidence, curiosity, and real-world problem-solving skills so more young people see themselves as “math people.” How TERC Can Help: TERC’s math education experts have developed a wide range of research-based curricula and resources, including LEAP, the first early algebra curriculum, Investigations, a rigorous K–5 mathematics curriculum, EMPower for adult learners, the Forum for Equity in Elementary Mathematics, Storytelling Math books, and MPACT, all designed to help students build skills, confidence, and a sense of themselves as capable math thinkers.
