STEM education insights and resources for educators
Programs & Materials Highlights
Our forward-thinking and groundbreaking research projects often result in insightful and inspiring learning materials, many for free.
EarthLabs
Download free, research-based Earth science modules that provide the laboratory experiences needed to make Earth science a rigorous capstone high school course. Complete with teacher and student guides, each module combines hands-on investigations, real-world data, satellite imagery, and interactive visualizations to help students connect concepts across the sciences while developing the analytical skills they need for college and beyond.
Takeaway: By replacing traditional, abstract math requirements with hands-on, career-specific courses, these community colleges are significantly boosting pass rates, helping students earn their degrees and successfully transition into the workforce.
How TERC Can Help: TERC’s EMPower curriculum supports these efforts by moving away from abstract exercises toward practical and rigorous, everyday problem-solving, while also providing instructors with the professional development needed to deliver this contextual approach. This dual focus ensures community college students build the real-world mathematical skills necessary to earn their degrees and thrive in the workforce.
STEM Fact!
The U.S. Department of Labor identifies mathematics as a foundational skill across nearly every skilled trade, including construction, plumbing, welding, and electrical work.
This World Listening Day (July 18), explore how sound shapes learning with Sound Travels, an NSF-funded TERC research project investigating how soundscapes influence attention, curiosity, conversations, and learning in places like museums, parks, zoos, and botanic gardens.
Researchers found that visitors who heard sounds that prompted them to think also reported stronger learning outcomes. To celebrate, we're sharing two free activities, Active Listening Mission and The Listening Lilypad, that encourage learners of all ages to explore the sounds around them.
Discover how storytelling can deepen public engagement with science. From immersive virtual reality experiences to large-scale films, storytelling can make science more accessible, spark curiosity, and strengthen connections between researchers and communities. If you missed the REVISE Center's recent webinar on this topic, you can now watch the recording.
We love nothing more than seeing how TERC content positively impacts your learning. Share your #TERCTaughtMe moments for the chance to be featured in our next newsletter!
